System

A System is an organised and usually delimited universe, whose components are interconnected (giving up their independence from the whole).

According to Frerichs a system may be defined as an autonomic structure consisting of parts that organise according to their own rules (in contrast to an aggregate).

The grade interconnections may be quantified by means of the clustering coefficient, i.e. the quotient of actual and possible links among the system's components.

Open system systems interact via matter, energy or information with their environment. Compared to closed systems they usually exhibit a higher degree of stability .
