Flexikon: Terms of use

Table of contents

Preamble

The Flexikon is a free service of DocCheck Medical Services GmbH. Its purpose is to spread information and allow an open exchange of medical topics. It is meant for physicians, veterinarians, dentists, pharmacists, students in these disciplines and all other people interested in medical themes. Everybody can view all pages, read them or edit them as an author or even add completely new articles to the Flexikon. Please do also view our best practices.

General mechanism

The most special characteristic of the Flexikon is that its content may be edited or even deleted by any user. The 100 last versions of an article are always reachable via the navigation box on the right. If you do not accept this concept, please do not add any content to the Flexikon.

Copyrights and display

As an author adding an article to the Flexikon you assure that you have written the text yourself, that it belongs to the public (public domain) or that the copyright's owner has accepted these terms of use.

You are bound to follow the legal statements of copyrights. Do NOT copy any content that is not owned by you. Do NOT use any copyright protected text without the consent of its user!

The content you are adding to the Flexikon is covered by the GNU free documentation license. This means: It may be used or edited by anybody without asking you for permission. The Flexikon is a free and open platform. You are not allowed to add any content if you want to assert your right on it later on.

You may use the content of the Flexikon for your own purposes according to the GNU free documentation license without any limitation, but the Flexikon has to be mentioned as the original source. If you are using Flexikon content on the net, you need to add a link to the original article in addition. To add a link simply use an URL like this: "http://www.flexikon.com/Your term".

Some of the Flexikon pages contain pictures that are owned by Medicalpicture or by picture authors represented by Medicalpicture. These illustrations are NOT part of the GNU license. They are protected by the copyrights mentioned on the website of Medicalpicture.

Some other pages of the Flexikon contain flash animations created by DocCheck for a better exemplification. These animations are NOT part of the GNU license but owned by DocCheck.

Other pages contain videos. These movies are also NOT covered by the GNU license but are owned by the respective producer or by DocCheck TV.

DocCheck may change the presentation and design of all articles and of the Flexikon in general at any time.

Adding content

Flexikon authors should write their articles diligently and to the best of their knowledge. Please avoid senseless text and repeatings. Take care that your articles are of an appropriate scientific level and do not confuse or mislead non-professionals or patients.

DocCheck will delete articles (including links) with

  • offending
  • youth misleading
  • racist
  • right wing extremistic
  • pornographic
  • criminal
  • misleading
  • clearly wrong
or otherwise unacceptable content without prior information of the author.

Adding such content to the Flexikon is prohibited. Furthermore, it is not allowed to add any commercial content. Using the Flexikon for commercial purposes without an explicite authorisation by DocCheck is forbidden.

Articles may be written anonymously or personally (please log in with your DocCheck password). Even for anonymous contributions DocCheck saves the IP address of the author to enable the localisation of the author in case of illegal contempts.

Editorial responsability, nonliability

The articles in the Flexikon should be used for further education not for the actual treatment of diseases. DocCheck does neither edit articles nor checks them for correctness.

DocCheck does not assume liability for the correctness of medical contents, especially not for the correct description of medical treatments, cures, dosages, reference values or units. We ask all users of the Flexikon to critically check all content and to always compare it to other sources in the internet or elsewhere.

Within the Flexikon, links to external websites are marked in green. DocCheck does exclude liability for any information on the linked pages.

Availability

As the Flexikon is a free service DocCheck does not guaranty its permanent availability. DocCheck has the right to restrain the availability of the Flexikon for technical or maintenance reasons or to completely discontinue this service.

DocCheck reserves the right to exclude individual authors from the Flexikon if they infringe upon the terms of use or the general rules of behaviour.

DocCheck may also lock certain articles - so that editing them is not possible anymore - if they were changed repeatedly in an impertinent or destructive way.

Commercial utilisation

By adding any content to the Flexikon you give your permission that DocCheck may use you article or part of the content for the refinancing of its internet services. DocCheck has the right to distribute the contents of the Flexikon in electronical or printed versions. This includes to offer the content of the Flexikon on further platforms like smartphones, PDAs or other mobile services. DocCheck also reserves the right to sell advertising spaces within the Flexikon at some point in the future.
