Why should I participate in the Flexikon?

I would like to participate but I am afraid to make mistakes. What should I do?

It is good to be concerned - but not too much, please. You may do some experiments on our playground. Be brave in editing articles and read some useful hints before you start.

Do I have to log in to edit an article?

No, everybody may add or edit articles without any kind of registration.

What is the point about logging in?

You may save your personal settings and your name is shown instead of your IP number.

Are there any guidelines or hints?

The Flexikon is an open project. Everybody may participate and add or edit articles. You as user or author decide in which direction the Flexikon grows ...

What is the ideal / maximum length of an article?

If one page contains more than 32 kB (about 32,000 characters) a warning sign appears, because some browsers do not support the administration of longer passages. Therefor think upon fragmentation in case you want to write a longer article.

I have detected an act of vandalism or accidentally damaged a page. How can I undo the changes?

Go to the affected page and click on "page history". Select the version you wish to restore, click on "edit page" and save the changes. Please add a short explanation in the field "Edit summary" (e.g. Restored an old version because of vandalism).
Maybe it is possible to improve the article. Please take a look at how to write good articles.

Why are some words written in pink?

The pink colour means that this word is meant to be the title of a new page, which is not written yet. You may add this page to the Flexikon by clicking on the pink link and it will change its colour towards red.

Why are some words written in green?

These are links to external pages.

What happens if my computer, my web browser or the server crashes while I am editing an article?

Your changes are lost. So please make sure to save your changes from time to time, especially when writing long articles.

How can I add pictures?

Please take a look at adding pictures.

An author behaves unreasonable.

Weblinks

Are abstracts or translations of articles from a different source a good way to expand the Flexikon ?

Yes, this is a good opportunity as long as you stick to the best practices and copyrights.

Is it okay to link other websites without copying any content into the Flexikon?

External links are fine. They can enhance the value of the Flexikon. Though, articles should not mainly be lists of weblinks. Therefor we try to keep the number of external links below 5 and this should be high quality websites.
