DCCC is an abbreviation for the
Diabetes Control and Complications Trial. This study has conclusively proven that intensified
insulin therapy improves long-term glycemic control as measured by
HbA1c fraction, and reduces the risk of development and progression of microvascular complications; the major drawback being 2-3 fold increase in severe
hypoglycemic episodes.
